Development Access
• Pedestrian access for the site will utilise existing pedestrian access points to/from Kensington High Street as well as Holland Park Walk.• It is proposed to minimise vehicle movements across the site with access available for occasional servicing activity or visitor taxi trips. A basement car park with access ramp will be provided as part of the development.
Parking
• A total of 56 car parking spaces are proposed in the basement for the residential and exhibition use. Two dedicated disabled spaces will be provided at ground level close to the main access for the Exhibition use. The previous Commonwealth Institute site included 104 spaces for the office and conference centre• The residential use will be provided with 53 spaces and 3 will be allocated for disabled exhibition users. The development proposals also include 11 spaces for motorcycles within the basement for residential use.
• The residential cycle parking (one space per unit) will be located in the basement within the secure storage areas and the 50 Exhibition cycle parking spaces will be provided at ground level. There is the potential to introduce a dedicated docking station within the public realm to accommodate the proposed Mayor's cycle hire scheme.
Servicing
• All servicing for the development will take place within the development site with everyday delivery and maintenance vehicles being directed to the basement. Deliveries and waste collection in larger vehicles for the residential and exhibition use will take place at ground level close to the relevant land-use. The residential deliveries will be directed to the appropriate residential block and distribution within the site will be co-ordinated by the Estate Management team. Access will be provided for removal vehicles to each of the residential blocks when required.• Refuse for the residential development will be stored in the basement with collections being carried out at ground level via the main vehicular access road.
• The servicing for the Exhibition will be designed to accommodate a 16.5m articulated vehicle that would be the largest expected for a typical museum or gallery use. It is expected that access for this size of vehicle will be infrequent.
