The development of the Parabola would turn a derelict site into a cultural destination bringing great community benefit directly to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
Re-vitalising Kensington High Street
- Visitor attractions make a major contribution to local economies, through direct employment and attracting more visitors to an area and therefore promoting expenditure on other local good and services.

- It is estimated that the Design Museum will attract 400,000 visitors to the collection and special exhibitions spending over £6 million per year in the area

- There would also be further local expenditure from the households living in the new development and from the workforce.

- We are committed to working with the Council, local business and other partners to maximise linked trips and local expenditure from visitors and residents in the area, including:

• a joint tourism promotion strategy

• joint marketing initiatives

• involvement in Town Centre and Area Management activities

Spreading the Benefits
In line with RBKC’s Community Strategy (2008 to 2018) we intend to work with the Council to improve the quality of life of residents and in particular, targeting initiatives to address the causes and consequences of deprivation in North Kensington.

- Construction Jobs and Training. A Construction and Employment Strategy will be produced, identifying the types and numbers of jobs and skills levels required; involvement in local training and employment initiatives and resources to support the delivery of the strategy.

- Completed Development: Jobs and Training. We will ensure that local opportunities to access the jobs in the completed development are maximised. These will be in:

• Estate Management opportunities to include management and administration, security, facilities management, grounds and building maintenance,

• The Design Museum, which will include curatorial, research, finance, teaching, fundraising, communication, technical, operations and facilities management, front of house (invigilation and security), retail and café staff.

- Education and Cultural Activities. The expected use of the exhibition building by the Design Museum offers the opportunity to provide a range of arts and cultural opportunities to residents of RBKC and to develop partnerships with local schools and other providers. This directly addresses the Council’s objectives of increasing participation in the arts and providing education opportunities for young people, in particular:

• curriculum development in creative and applied arts

• specific and tailored education programmes for gifted and talented young people to promote young talent

• community outreach and school clubs

• family programmes
